Four men are dead, and two others were hospitalized following a car crash and chase in Monroe County, Georgia on early Sunday morning.
The crash took place just after midnight after a deputy clocked a black Dodge Charger going 102 mph at MM 189.
The release says the Charger accelerated up to 137 mph before the deputy could initiate a traffic stop. The deputy then attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it as the speed was nearly 170 mph.
About five minutes later, somebody nearby reported observing a man on the 198-exit ramp along with a Dodge Charger on fire in the wood line.
Monroe and Butts County deputies attended the scene and started to remove passengers from the burning vehicle. They were only able to get two people out before they couldn’t observe anything because of the smoke.
Four other men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men were admitted to the Medical Center, Atrium Health Navicent.
The crash is currently under investigation.
