German prosecutors may extend an investigation into auto supplier Robert Bosch for its suspected association in emissions test cheating to include dealings with Fiat, Ford, General Motors and Hyundai, according to the Stuttgart public prosecutor’s office.
German weekly Der Spiegel reported that the prosecutors believe Bosch to have supplied those automakers with illicit emissions control software.
The prosecutor’s office verified it had started preliminary inquiries in connection with Bosch and the four automakers, but did not provide information.
It has not started any official investigations on the matter, a representative for the office stated.
The prosecutor’s office started an investigation concerning Bosch’s emissions dealings with Volkswagen in 2015, after the automaker’s diesel test-cheating scandal in the United States broke.
Later on it started separate investigations in relation to its suspected association with alleged emissions irregularities at Daimler, Chyrsler and VW’s Audi.
Bosch stated it could not comment on the information of the investigations.
“We are taking accusations that diesel software was manipulated very seriously,” the company stated, adding it was cooperating fully with the officials.
