There was the barnstorming 1,200 hp (895 kW) Venom GT from Hennessey. Now the car is back once again and this time the team from Road & Track has driven it. There is also a video of the drive for evidence. The car weighs 2,685 lbs or 1,218 kg. Hennessey has built on its experience in tuning the Viper, 5th generation Camaro and various Cadillacs, and made this version on the principle of big power plus light weight equals to more fun.
The process that Hennessey have adopted for this transformation is starting with a Lotus Elise which they strip down to the chassis level. The advantage of selecting this car as the base is its light weight characteristics. The chassis then has been lengthened and rebuilt with a slippery restyled body. This design gives the car a right mix of engine cooling as well as down force. The original fit engine of the Lotus which is a 1.8 L turbocharged four-pot has been replaced with a twin-turbo variant of Chevrolet’s 6.9 L LS9 V8. Carbon brakes have been added to the new build and the KW adjustable suspension completes the transformation to the Venom GT.
The GT has a capability of doing 135 mph which is 217 kmph in third gear. That’s one feature or characteristic which would surely appeal to any auto lovers mind.
The company intends to build just 99 units of the car each going at a price of US$600,000 (€455,373). The car can be expected to be named the king of the road in time.
