Believe it or not but its actually a Mercedes Benz SLK AMG that is at the heart of the car that you are looking at. The car has been named Hidalgo and is clearly reminiscent of the Bugatti Type 57 models of the 1930s, including the famous Atlantic model. The redesigning and brilliant looks were added by a Swiss company known as the Helvetic Motor Company (H.M.C.). And don’t worry if you haven’t heard of it before. There are many who haven’t either.
If we go by the Hidalgo facts then we may consider it to be the European equivalent of the Himiko Classic that Japan’s Mitsuoka has built on the MX-5. Coming back to the Swiss replica, the Hidalgo gets its power from the SLK AMG’s 5.5-liter V8 engine which can churn out 355 hp of peak power and 376 lb-ft of max torque. Its a 1930s looks that the Hidalgo might sport but when it comes to sheer outright performance, the car is quite capable of burning some serious rubber. As Helvetic Motor Company claims these figures are enough to make the car do the 0 to 100 km/h dash in just 3.4 seconds while the maximum speed the Hidalgo is capable of is 250km/h (155mph) before electronics circuitry cuts it off.
But hurry up as the company has said they will be producing just 6 units of this classic car in a year, taking 2 months to produce a single car. And even if you have got past this, there is another hurdle – the cost as HMC has said each of these fast paced beauties will come for a cool €428,000, which is equal to US$565,000 going by today’s exchange rates.
