Italy’s government expects Stellantis to build its third electric battery plant of Europe in Italy, Industry Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Wednesday.

During a parliamentary hearing, Giorgetti said he had reiterated to the automaker that the government expected the plant would be located in Italy.

“Where? We are waiting for answers from the company, but we certainly expect it to be located in Italy,” he said.

As Stellantis continue to extend its efforts into electric mobility, it has been in discussion with Italy since this month for building a new gigafactory.
