Police state a mall security guard was arrested Sunday for supposedly leaving his 2-year-old son in a hot car when he went to work.
The incident took place around 11:30 a.m. at the Roosevelt Field Mall.
According to officials, a 911 call was made about a child left alone in a parked automobile on the second level parking lot by Macy’s. They stated that a NCPD Mounted Unit officer observed the child strapped into a car seat in the rear passenger area of the automobile.
Officials stated the officer could help the child through an open window and unlocked door. They added that the 2-year-old was sweating profusely and was hot to touch, then started to cry.
Police stated that 26-year-old Kaliym Rodriguez, of Roosevelt, returned to his vehicle about an hour and a half later and was placed under arrest.
The father of the child is now charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police say the child was taken to the hospital, and there he was treated and released into the care of Child Protective Services.
Rodriguez is anticipated to be arraigned in court today.
