McLaren eyeing Porsche customers with its MP4-12C

by Alex

It was initially thought that McLaren had set its target on drawing away Porshce owners to its fold. However it is now known that their main target are the current and prospective owners of the Ferrari brand of cars. The chief of McLaren’s North American division, Anthony Joseph mentioned that the company and Porsche were sharing a common approach to build car where a greater emphasis would be accorded to substance rather than just style.

Interest for the MP4-12C is quite substantive even though the car has not yet been actually owned or delivered to anyone. There are on last count about 2,700 prospective customers in their list and McLaren has plans to cater for sales figures touching 1,000 in their very first year of production.

The price of the MP4-12C in the US market is expected to be about $230,000 and the sales are expected to start by the beginning of next year.

There is however doubt over the main theme of McLaren in wooing away Porsche lovers for the Porsche is priced much lower than the MP4-12C. The difference in the price between the two being not very high there is a chance though that people may prefer the sweet ride that the McLaren’s MP4 gives when compared to Porsche. Maybe this is what McLaren is aiming at.
