Mercedes-Benz aiming to take on Bentley’s Continental GT with a whole new model

by Alex

A new model to be placed above the CLS and which would be a four door item is under active consideration at Mercedes. This would take on the popularity of the Bentley Continental GT. Most likely to be powered by an AMG engine, the car would have a design that hovers close to dramatic. Priced high, the same would be justified with its impressive chassis that ensure high performance characteristics.

According to Autocar, the car would be by style and design a bigger brother of the CL Coupe. Mercedes Benz also claims the car to be a big hit specially in the Russian as well as Middle East markets. There is also speculation about a Maybach version of the vehicle being considered by Mercedes. This due to the fact that people have shown great interest in the Xenatec 57S Coupe which is based on the Maybach luxury sedan.

However, while official confirmation about the engine is not available as of now, there is high probability that it would be the all-new 5.5-liter V8 bi-turbo found on the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG that would go on to power the new car. This particular power house delivers 518 hp on the CLS 63 and accelerates it from 0 to 96 kmph or 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Top speed of the CLS 63 is electronically limited at 155 mph or 250 kmph. To be a player of contention the new car from Mercedes-Benz has to deliver similar performance features.
