Munich prosecutors on Friday stated a criminal investigation into diesel manipulation at automaker Audi has now reached the management board level.
The investigation is focusing unknown individuals, a spokesperson for the Munich prosecutor’s office stated on Friday.
“The investigation is at the level of present and previous Audi board members,” the spokesperson said, adding that officials are looking to establish if any managers had actually breached their supervisory tasks.
Whether or not supervisory tasks have been breached remains uncertain, the spokeswoman stated.
A breach of supervisory duties could lead to a penalty of approximately 1 million euros ($1.2 million).
Audi confirmed it had been alerted about the investigation by prosecutors, including it is working constructively with the officials.
