The new car registrations have paved its way into the two millions club with a 14% increase in the month of October. This has happened for the first time since 2007 according to the reports by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
There was also a 14% increase in the car registration compared to the last year’s data. Almost 180000 vehicles were registered in the month of October which also marks the month as the 32nd month of growth in the automobile industry. It is imperative to say that the surge in the registration has exceeded the expectations of the industry.
For instance, the Ford Fiesta supermini has more than 116000 cars sold this year, thereby making it the biggest selling car brand in Britain. Since 2008, Ford also recorded its best two months with a sale of over 100000 64- plate cars in the months of September and October.
Vauxhall is leading the third place with its Corsa model in 2014 and till date has sold over 68000 cars. Astra Hatch by Cheshire is ranked fifth with a sale of 51000 cars. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a hit with the Japanese firm and has so far made a 58% hike in its sales.
The market is up by more than 50% for the alternatively fuelled cars too in both September and October. Despite these figures though, the Chief Executive of SMMT Mike Hawes expect the demand for the alternatively fuelled cars to continue and the rest to level off before the year ends.
