Three people were killed early Friday morning in Orange County, California, when a pickup fleeing the Garden Grove police hit another car, crashed through a wall and came to rest upside down in a swimming pool, officials said.
At 2:12 a.m., a Garden Grove police officer found a Dodge Ram driving “at a high rate of speed” through a parking lot close to Chapman Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, Lt. Mario Martinez of the Garden Grove Police Department said.
The officer turned on his lights and sirens and attempted to catch the truck as it moved west on Chapman Avenue. The pickup kept driving at a fast speed until it hit another car at the intersection of Euclid Street and Orangewood Avenue, police said, about two miles northwest of where the officer first observed the truck.
The pickup hit through a wall and came to rest upside down in the swimming pool of a home. The driver died at the scene. The driver of the car struck by the pickup was admitted to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
When fire officials managed to lift the pickup from the pool hours later, they discovered a third man dead inside, police said.
The police is yet to reveal identities of the victims.
