Maria Sharapova is a big name in the world of sports, or tennis in particular. With that being said, it is only natural for a world class luxury automaker like Porsche to sign a contract that sees Sharapova be the ambassador for the German automaker. Now, approaching the final stages of the 2014 WTA competition, both Sharapova and Porsche have decided to hold a charity event in Singapore, where the competition finals are taking place. This, by the way, is the very first time that the decisive stages of the WTA competition is being held in Singapore.
Together with Porsche Singapore, the gorgeous, talented Russian blond recently pulled off a fundraising event dedicated to the Straits Times Sekolah Pocket Money Fund. The word ‘Sekolah’ means ‘School’ and as its name implies, this charity event is meant to provide a fair education opportunity to those kids whose parents are considerably lacking of money to send them to the schools in Singapore.
To raise the funds required to help the kids’ education, three items went under the hammer during the charity event. The first item is a tennis ball whereas the second item is a tennis racket. Both of these items have been signed by the world tennis champion from Russia, Sharapova. As for the third item, it is a very exclusive handbag that has been designed by the Porsche Design itself. Apart from auctioning the three aforementioned items, the beautiful Russian athlete also took some time to allow some of her little fans to play tennis with her during the event, making the event all the more exciting and fun.
At the end of the day, Porsche and Sharapova managed to raise a fund of SGD 50,000 in total. To the reporters covering the event, Sharapova mentioned that she was very happy to be at this particular event in Singapore, especially because it was also the first time a WTA final was held in the country in question.
