The cooperation between Daimler and Renault was about to result in a dynamic new flagship for the French automaker but plans have been put on hold according to Renault Chief Operating Officer.
Speaking candidly to a well known journal, He said the idea for the car was given up because the company couldn’t build a suitable case for the model. The forthcoming luxury sedan was also hindered by variety of issues like problems with sourcing, logistics and assembly.
The Officer refused to divulge details, but a source said the plans were axed because Mercedes offered components from the current E-Class. Which meant that Renault flagship launch would have been possible only when a new E-Class was around the corner.
Due to the abrupt decision to drop the model Renault will now focus on restoring their current higher end models as well as launching a new bespoke model.
Let us hope that Renault does come out with something new and meaningful and we would be glad if the axed model is revived once again.
