A sea lion discovered wandering in a Corte Madera car dealership, in Marin County, California, and was rescued by staff from the Marine Mammal Center in the Marin Headlands.
The female was discovered on November 2 at Mini of Marin at 5880 Paradise Drive. The center said the sea lion might have traveled far enough into the marsh in search of food and then crossed San Clemente Drive.
Other than joint arthritis in her right flipper, the sea lion was in completely fine condition, according to the center. The center is working to rehabilitate the animal for eventual release.
The same sea lion received treatment for swollen jaw and neck wounds in 2019 at the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro.
In California, the population of sea lions is growing. California sea lions can be found in many coastal spots such as the Monterey Coast Guard jetty and PIER 39 in San Francisco. The current estimates of their population in the state is approximately 238,000.
