A suspected stolen vehicle rammed a deputy’s cruiser and led multiple agencies on a pursuit through parts of Montgomery County, Ohio, before the vehicle eluded officers, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place at a traffic stop late Wednesday night around 11:10 p.m. in the area Republic and North Dixie drives in Harrison Twp. A deputy in the area was probing a report of a stolen vehicle and discovered it parked in a lot at the Creekside Townhomes complex, investigators said in a media release Thursday.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy parked his cruiser in front of the stolen car, described as a silver Chrysler 200 that was occupied by several individuals, and turned on the cruiser’s overhead lights.
“As the deputy attempted to exit the cruiser to give commands to the individuals in the stolen car, the driver of the stolen car put the car in gear and accelerated forward pushing the cruiser and deputy backward. The door of the cruiser struck the deputy’s arm as it was pushed back into the deputy causing minor injury to the deputy,” investigators told in the release.
While the deputy was injured he was not required to be hospitalized, investigators said.
A second deputy and MetroParks ranger pursued the stolen vehicle as it fled the scene south on North Dixie Drive. The pursuit continued until they lost sight of it in the area of I-75 and State Route 4.
Dayton police and Kettering police would later find the vehicle in their cities and both pursued the vehicle for a short time. Kettering police reported they last observed the vehicle on Whipp Road near Bigger Road before it eluded their officers.
More details and potential suspects were not released. The incident is being investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
