Tesla hires Audi executive for automobile production

Tesla has employed Audi executive Peter Hochholdinger as its current Vice President of Vehicle Production, following the departure of 2 senior production supervisors previously this month, the company stated in a statement emailed to The Brink this night.

Hochholdinger will be in charge of manufacturing of the present Model S and Model X, in addition to scaling up the manufacturing program for the newly announced Model 3. Tesla has received more than 400,000 preorders for its newest automobile, a number far in excess of the number of cars the company has made to date.

At Audi, Hochholdinger has actually been in charge of manufacturing for the A4, A5, and Q5 automobiles, in charge of production of 400,000 cars per year, and oversees thousands of staff members, the statement says. He’s likewise been working as a consultant on a new Audi production center in Mexico.

“Tesla is excited to have Peter join the team,” reads the statement, which did not mention a start date.
