Three people were killed and some others were injured on early Thursday following a massive pileup on Interstate 95 in Volusia County, Florida.
At least 15 vehicles, including several tractor-trailers, were involved in five crashes on both sides of the highway.
Four of the crashes took place on I-95 north, resulting in one person’s death. Two others died in the crash on I-95 south.
One child was flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, and an unknown number of victims were admitted to Halifax Health.
It’s believed fog and smoke from a newly controlled burn decreased visibilities to near zero along the highway.
All northbound and southbound lanes were shut from State Road 44 to Deering Parkway.
The incident is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
