Toyota Motor stated its board would make a decision on Monday concerning partnership the company has been considering with Suzuki Motor since October 2016.
It provided no further details.
The Nikkei business daily noted on Saturday the two Japanese automakers could declare a wide-ranging partnership that would consist the development of new technologies and procurement, and announce the deal as soon as Monday.
Both automakers are set to reveal third-quarter earnings later in the day.
Shares of Toyota and Suzuki were up 1 percent, in line with the wider Tokyo market.
