Two people dead after a two-vehicle crash in East Oakland, California on Wednesday which also injured a third person.
A male driver and a female passenger both were pronounced dead at the scene.
They were not identified as of yet.
A third passenger, a female, was in stable condition at a hospital Thursday morning.
Prior to the crash, officers attempted to carry out a traffic stop shortly after 8:45 p.m. on a vehicle in the 1300 block of 76th Avenue. When the vehicle fled southbound along 76th at high speed, officers did not pursue it. Sometime later, the vehicle hit the eastbound car occupied by a male and two females on Rudsdale.
A 37-year-old Oakland man was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run driving after attempting to run from the scene.
The man has been booked into Santa Rita jail on suspicion of hit-and-run, blocking a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon (non-firearm), and evading police causing severe bodily injury. He faces arraignment on March 21 at Dublin’s East County Hall of Justice.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
