Two teenagers were killed in a car crash on I-55, in southeast Missouri.

The accident took place before 2 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County.

A 2003 Mazda 6 was disabled from an earlier crash and was blocking both lanes on a bridge when it was hit by a 2013 Ford F150, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The impact caused the Mazda to hit a 16-year-old male who was outside the vehicle. He died, together with a 18-year-old identified as Shayleigh Smith of Jackson, who was in the car.

The driver of the Ford was not injured.

Officials are yet to not identify the 16-year-old.
