Two killed after car crash in Putnam County, Indianapolis

The head-on collision took place on East State Road 42, on Tuesday.

A Putnam County Sheriff’s Office representative told that a 71-year-old named Gary Bailey was driving a red GMC SUV westbound on East State Road 42 when his automobile crossed the center line and struck into an oncoming silver car, driven by 21-year-old Billie Hatton.

Witnesses said the crash took place on a bridge, so Hatton was not able to swerve in any direction to prevent the head-on crash.

Both drivers died in the crash. A toddler, who passenger of the silver car, was flown to Riley Hospital for Children.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the two victims. We also pray for the child. We ask that you do the same,” the sheriff wrote in a Facebook post.

Putnam County is approximately 45 miles southwest of downtown Indianapolis.

Putnam County officials are currently investigating the crash further.
