Two people were killed after a crash between a car and buggy on Wednesday evening in Holmes County, Ohio.

A 34-year-old Millersburg man and his 4-year-old son died in a vehicle-buggy crash Wednesday evening in Holmes County, according to a news release from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

The 34-year-old diver of the buggy cart, identified as Paul A. Wengerd was pronounced dead at the scene.

His son was admitted to Pomerene Hospital and later transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus by helicopter, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The crash took place when Wengerd was southbound on state Route 83 and was hit from the rear at about 6:15 p.m. by a 2007 Jeep Commander driven by a 28-year-old Millersburg woman who wasn’t injured.

Wengerd and his son were ejected following the impact from the cart, which was damaged, and exited the west side of the road coming to rest in a wooded area.

The Commander Jeep drove a short distance turned around and returned to the scene.

Holmes County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
