Two killed after head-on car crash on I-39

Two people were killed after a three-car crash in LaSalle County, Illinois on Tuesday night.

The crash took place around 11:14 p.m. on I-39 northbound at milepost 76 in Mendota when a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it hit a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer head-on.

The Silverado then came to rest in the center median and Trailblazer came to rest in the northbound lanes of Interstate 39.

A 2019 Ford F650 was traveling northbound and also hit the trailblazer.

The drivers of both Chevrolets were pronounced dead at the scene.

All northbound lanes were shut with traffic being diverted onto US Route 34 for investigation.

The lanes were resumed at around 4:10 a.m.

The crash is being investigated by Illinois State Police.
