Two people were killed after a head-on car crash in Windsor County, Vermont on Thursday.
The crash took place when a minivan crossed the centerline on Route 103 in Chester, striking a sedan carrying three people. Officials responded to the crash around 8:45 p.m.
The officials were notified of a Bergeron driving erratically with no headlights just before the crash.
The van’s driver, an 80-year-old identified as Janice Bergeron was described as having major injuries by emergency response teams. She was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
The sedan’s driver, a 24-year-old woman, was admitted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with major but non-life-threatening injuries.
A 2-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another adult passenger was admitted to Springfield Hospital with what investigators referred to as minor injuries.
A section of the roadway was shut for approximately four hours.
An investigation is in “infancy stages,” local officials say, who are being helped by the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
