Wiesmann introduces Spyder concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show

by Alex

The Geneva Motor Show witnessed a very lightweight two-seater roadster concept model from Weismann. The name of the concept that the German coachbuilders have given is Spyder. The kerb weight of the concept is less than 1000 kg or 2,679 pounds. The car is able to cross the 100 kmph speed mark from rest in 4 seconds while the top speed that the car is capable of is 290 kmph or 180 mph. All this is possible due to the 4.0 liter 420 hp V8 engine.

It can be well assumed given that details are not forthcoming form the company that the engine is the same eight cylinder unit that one finds on the current BMW M3.

The Spyder has no doors or windscreen and has been labeled as an extreme car by the maker. Evident that it’s just for fun driving and nothing else.

Fans of the brand of car had demanded this type of a car for long and it is in response to their demand that the Weismann brothers came up with this Spyder concept based on earlier designs by the company.

General Manager of the company, Friedhelm Wiesmann had this to say: “We want to test the marketability of such cars in Geneva. The feedback of customers, partners and experts has high influence on the consideration of advancing the Spyder model.”

Depending on reaction that the company receives at the event that is going on the company would take the decision of whether production stage would be started or not. In case it does happen then the Spyder can be expected to hit the market in next two to three years.
