A 33-year-old Tarpon Springs driver died after she ran into a car in front of her and bounced into oncoming traffic northeast of Crystal River, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Four other people, two from Clearwater, were seriously injured in the accident right after 3 p.m. Tuesday on Citrus Avenue at Basilico Street.

The Tarpon Springs woman was moving north on Citrus Avenue when she failed to slow for traffic that had stopped in front of her, the Highway Patrol said. She crashed with a car and bounced into the southbound lane, where an oncoming pickup truck struck the driver’s side of her car.

She died at the scene.

The two people in the car she struck are from Clearwater, the 69-year-old woman who was driving, and a 77-year-old man traveling with her. The two men in the pickup are from Lecanto, the driver, 77, and a passenger, 95.

The Highway Patrol did not provide the names of any of those involved as its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the Florida Constitution that was designed to protect crime victims however that deprives the public of details long available under Florida’s public records law.
