$1.7 Million Porsche 918 Spyder Theft On a Sunday Afternoon

by SpeedLux

Francisco Gonzalez-Velasquez didn’t simply swipe a lowly Honda Accord late one night. Instead he took a $1.7 million Porsche 918 Spyder from a car dealership showroom. On a Sunday, during the daytime.

Salt Lake City CBS affiliate KUTV notes that Gonzalez-Velasquez made off with the 918 after smashing the window and taking the automobile’s keys at Porsche Salt Lake City at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. He was collared and arrested by cops around 10:30 p.m. that night-less than two miles from the dealership.

Porsche Salt Lake City validated that the automobile Gonzalez-Velasquez stole was a Martini-liveried 918 Spyder Weissach Edition its selling for $1.695 million. As per the sales listing on the dealership’s site, the automobile has just 793 miles on the clock, though that number is probably a bit greater now.

The vehicle is safely back at Porsche Salt Lake City, however maybe this time the dealer will ensure keys are locked away in a safe.
