ENGINE-
The 2013 Land Rover LR-2 has the, latest turbocharged 2.0-liter four, which promises increased performance and efficiency in this latest 2013 model. Peak output therefore is rated at 240 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, up by 10 horsepower and 16 pound-feet respectively over the previous six-cylinder unit, It replaces the 3.2-liter six-cylinder and brings with it the benefits of being 88 pounds lighter, which makes unibody SUV feel lighter and more agile!
Shifting remains through a six-speed transmission with CommandShift for manual cog swapping. Final EPA fuel economy numbers will be released around the corner of launch, but Land Rover promises it will be better than the outgoing six-cylinder’s 15/22 mpg city/highway figures. Land Rover also says the new 2013 Land Rover LR2 takes around 8.2 seconds to accelerate 0 to 60 mph and can reach a top speed of 124 MPH.
On a special note, let me tell this to all of you, that all LR2s also come with Land Rover’s Intelligent Power System Management (IPSM) which features Smart Regenerative Charging. This fuel-saving feature makes the alternator only charge the battery when the vehicle is decelerating, recovering kinetic energy from deceleration, rather than consuming energy during engine operation.
Also fitted to the vehicle is Land Rover’s Terrain Response system, a useful tool when off-roading as the system can automatically adapt the vehicle’s engine, gearbox, center coupling and chassis systems to match the demands of the terrain. The system works together with a secondary Hill Descent Control feature, which, as its name implies, aids drivers while tackling steep inclines, automatically restricting the speed on downhill approaches.
INTERIORS-
On Inspecting the Inside, the new LR2 has come up with a revised dashboard layout, a whole new center console and updated instrument cluster layout. Further, More equipment will be available this year. Whereas the Newly standard is a 7-inch touch-screen and dual sunroofs.
Optional are a Meridian surround-sound system with 17-speakers, voice command system and a backup camera with a trailer hitch assist function. Also with a new 5-inch screen lives between the dials in the dash cluster, the steering wheel now fitted with switches to navigate menus that appear there.
EXTERIORS-
Now coming on the outer part, on the outside there are three new potential hues: Aintree Green, Havana and Mauritius Blue. Those new paint selections set off tweaked design cues like the revised Xenon headlamps and LED taillamps, refreshed brightwork around the grille and fog lamps, and “paint detailing changes” made to the grille insert and fender vents.
The grille and fog lamp bezels now sport a bright finish and there are paint detailing changes to the front grille surround, insert bars and fender vent to harmonize the different elements. Externally, the LR2 HSE grill insert bars, fender vent and rear finisher strip have a light gloss silver finish whilst the grille surround is finished in gloss black. There are 18-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels as standard and two 19-inch wheel options.
SAFETY-
The LR2 has a long list of primary safety features – including its responsive handling, large four-wheel disc brakes and permanent all-wheel drive system which helps the driver avoid hazards. Another key to safety is maintaining excellent visibility under all conditions.
The high ‘command view’ seating position provides visibility over traffic and a clear view of the road. The generous areas of glass on LR2 offer excellent all-around views. Large door mirrors offer a wide field of view. An electrically heated front windshield and heated washer jets are available to maintain visibility in low temperature conditions. Rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights are also available.
All LR2 models feature seven airbags as standard equipment. The driver and passenger front airbags are designed to help provide head and chest protection and the front seat side airbags protect against side impacts. Full-length curtain airbags in the roof side structure are designed to help reduce the potential of head injury and roll-over ejection for front and rear occupants.
An inflatable knee bolster helps protect the driver against leg injury from the steering column. The front safety belts feature pre-tensioners. Pedestrian safety is also a high priority, with 2.76-3.54 inch (70mm-90mm) of clearance between the upper hood and under-hood mechanicals in the critical zones. The excellent energy absorbing qualities of the hood further assist pedestrian protection.
