After the crash, Tesla’s combustible battery started to explode.
Three people were seriously injured Sunday morning after police state a Tesla ran a red light and hit another car. The incident took place in downtown Salt Lake City.
To be more specific, the incident took place at 900 W. North Temple when the westbound Tesla crashed with the northbound car after “traveling at a high rate of speed” through a red light, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Brett Olsen.
Two men in the Tesla and one woman in the car hospitalized in area hospitals and were in critical condition.
Following the crash, Olsen said Tesla’s combustible battery started to explode on the scene, and a hazardous materials team arrived to take care of the battery.
Photos of the crash taken by a bystander revealed the front end of the Tesla apparently ruined by flames.
The crash is currently under investigation. Impairment was not immediately suspected in the crash, Olsen stated.
