Two people were killed after a vehicle crash along Harriman Highway on Tuesday.

It was just before 6 p.m. when a 2015 Ford Fusion driven by a 44-year-old woman from Oliver Springs was traveling eastbound on Harriman Highway. The car then ran off the side of the road and down an embankment. After that, it struck a tree and overturned before coming to rest in a creek and engulfing.

The driver, identified as Melissa Giles, and the passenger Jesse Lowe, 38, of Harriman, died due to the crash.

They were not using seatbelts.

Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
