On Monday, Lamborghini formally debuted the stunning Aventador S to the automotive community at large. Tipping the scales at simply 3,472 pounds, the new Aventador S is a complete 20 percent lighter than the outgoing Aventador.
As per Lamborghini, the car will be inspired by the 6.5-liter V-12 that’s usually found in the Aventador, but due to a new tune and modified valve timing, it now produces 740 horsepower—50 horsepower more than the Aventador, though its torque figures are same at 509 lb-ft. The drastic decrease in weight and enhanced horsepower translate into a sprint to 62 mph in simply 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.
Taking from its track-ready stablemate, the Aventador SV, the Aventador S now integrates a four-wheel steering system that assists in enhanced maneuverability at low and medium speeds. The Aventador S will also benefit from improved aerodynamics for more effective performance. The front of the Aventador S supposedly has 130 percent more downforce compared to the standard Aventador and the rear wing establishes 50 percent more downforce.
A first for automaker is the car’s Ego driving mode. Not like Corsa, Strada, and Sport—which are all pre-set modes—Ego enables a driver to customize the transmission, engine, all-wheel drive, steering, and suspension modes to their exact liking. Maybe one of the most noteworthy elements is that the car can send up to 90 percent of torque to the rear wheels, seemingly to remind that driver that while it may be an all-wheel drive car, it’s still a Lamborgjomo.
The Lamborghini Aventador S will be available for sale starting in spring and its expected to cost $421,350.
