Audi Revokes Plans to Produce A2 Concept

by SpeedLux

Audi has revealed a promising concept, at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, where it received mixed response from the press and public alike.
Since the reactions were not satisfactory, it forced Audi to announce that the A2 will not go into production anymore.

It was actually envisaged that the concept would begin rolling off the production line as of 2015, powered by either a full-electric engine or a plug-in hybrid version.
It had also aluminum space frame construction, placed atop a ‘sandwhich floor’ construction, which would have housed the lithium-ion batteries needed to power it, but nothing concrete materialized.

Audi was sure that they would be able to give the car a 200 km range, from a battery pack of unspecified capacity, which could be fully-charged in about 4 hours. According to reliable sources the experience gained from the new A2 concept will be utilized in other future eco friendly models.

However, this decision has lot to say about the general state of the European green market, which is higher in countries like the Netherlands Germany and other developed nations, but demand for EVs and hybrids is still the lowest throughout the European landscape.

So Audi has finally decided to stop the production with immediate effect and the knowledge gained would be put to use in forthcoming greener models.

Let us wait till a new concept is introduced and in the meantime let us browse the lovely pictures.
