Bentley won’t have a diesels engine. Won’t be accepted in the U.S. and Japan

Rumors which picked up quite a lot of probable reality on its way occurred about the hyperflux diesel that was supposed to be under planning stage at Bentley from way back in 2008. With the corporate change in ownership that Volkswagen had there was even more probability of this car to be making in real time. Brian Gush the CEO has however stated that this car is not possible for a number of reasons.

Bentley has its main market in the US and Japan, and in both these countries there is stiff opposition towards diesel engines. Gush opines that even if the engine be very fuel efficient and big in size yet the consumers in these two countries would not go for it.

Europe is the only other region where there is great patronage for diesel engines. There is however an expected rise in diesel engine in this market due to the high level of emission check standards that are being incorporated in this region. Diesel engines particularly have the sore spot of oxides of nitrogen in its exhaust. This is being strictly regulated by the Euro 6 emission regulations and going to hit hard on the diesel engine makers by way of price.

Bentley therefore is planning to make a more efficient 4.0 liter V8 engine and this has been announced in the 2011 Continental GT. The actual specification or performance standards of this new V8 has not yet been announced, however it is known to be more efficient than the current 6.0 liter W12 being used by Bentley. The launch of the V8 has been set for 2011 or early 2012.
