Last month marked a significant turning point for U.S. sales of plug-in electrical automobiles: the 100,000th Chevrolet Volt was provided.
It is now known as the first car with a plug in any section to reach 100,000 units, and Chevrolet’s justified in celebrating the event with a press release and a little bit of fanfare.
The Volt and the Nissan Leaf battery-electric hatchback went on sale in December 2010, and the Leaf led the Volt in overall sales for a bulk of the 5 and a half years since then.
Volt sales in July were a massive 2,406, its finest month from August 2014, for a seven-month total this year of 12,214, and a grand total since December 2010 of 100,964 sales.
Where as, the Leaf logged 1,063 deliveries for a year-to-date overall of 6,856.
Total U.S. sales for the Leaf from the day it launched are 96,447, suggesting it should cross the line in October or November if that rate continues.
