Fail: Volvo accidentally crashes S60 during collision warning system press demo [Video]

During a recent demonstration of the new Collision Warning System of Volvo in Sweden, the press corps saw what can happen when this technology fails. The new S60 from the testing tunnel of the carmaker cruised at 30 mph approaching a stalled truck on its path, the collision system would have automatically hit the brakes but that did not happen.

Instead, the S60 due for roll out this year, rear ended the truck in front of all the cameras and the eager media ready to see the system at work.

Well fortunately the Swedish car manufacturer was able to demo before the crash that the system really works. They blame the problem to human error, specifically to the battery used for the demo vehicle. Volvo also claimed that if a human driver was on board, he or she would have reacted appropriately knowing that the car is not stopping by itself.

The mishap was amusing in every angle but for sure it was not for Volvo. The S60 crash was the crash they did not want to show the world of all the tests they do at the safety center.
