When most parts of the world were eagerly getting ready for Christmas and all the fun and pleasure it has to offer, someone in Hong Kong was facing a very bad luck. Just a night right before Christmas this year, an Italian prancing horse was spotted bursting into flames. As it turned out, the vehicle was a pre-owned Ferrari 360 Modena. The car was wrecked pretty badly and seemingly, it would not be running around the streets of Hong Kong anymore.
As reported by the Apple Daily, the 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena, the vehicle actually belonged to a 42-year-old Hong Kong citizen. The owner bought the car back in the year 2012 and paid a total sum of HK$700,000 in cash. Then, only three months earlier, the owner sent the car in to make sure it acquired the necessary services and replacements of electrical parts. Unfortunately, the car is now totaled anyway.
According to the driver, right on the Christmas eve, he could smell gas fumes while he was trying to refill the fuel of his luxury Italian supercar. Yet, the driver claimed that there was nothing wrong with the fuel cap as it was closed properly. So, he kept on using the vehicle. It was not until approximately 1 a.m. at dawn on December 24, 2014, that explosion occurred at the rear end of the car, where its engine was mounted. The driver claimed that the explosion took place right in the middle of a Hong Kong highway.
So, the driver appropriately decided to pull over. After he stopped the car, he could see another explosion erupting from the vehicle’s engine bay, at its rear end. Thankfully, it did not take long for the driver to get out of his vehicle, otherwise he would have been burnt as well. The fire spread very quickly to the cabin of the car.
Later, it was suspected that the fire was triggered by the short circuiting of the electrical parts onboard the vehicle as well as some mechanical faults. Due to the fire, the rear end of the car was badly damaged, although it did not take long for the local firefighters to arrive at the scene and extinguish the fire.
