A test vehicle being tried out at Ferrari’s Fiorano race track near Maranello was spied upon. This is expected to be the replacement to Ferrari’s 612 Scaglietti in the making. The replacement car is expected to be lighter and having a V12 engine with direct injection with expected delivery to the showrooms in early 2012.
There are chances that this new four seater supercar would adopt the gasoline hybrid technology though this is not confirmed as yet. Ferrari had unveiled the 599 GTB Fiorano HY-KERS concept at the Geneva auto show in the early part of this year which was based on the gasoline hybrid technology.
The technology involves an electric motor which is coupled to the rear of the dual clutch 7 speed F1 transmission along with a set of lithium-ion batteries. This is expected to boost fuel economy and cut CO2 emissions by around 35 percent. The term used for this technology is kinetic energy recovery process. This process was used by Ferrari with their Formula one cars as well.
