Jeep Wrangler Pickup spied for the first time

Spy photographers have actually spotted the new Jeep Wrangler pickup, using some major off-road tires.

The prototype sports the same four-door body design as the Wrangler Unlimited. Jeep has done a pretty great job hiding the pickup with camouflage, but we can tell the grille looks actually different compared to other models in the lineup. The company has separated the vertical slats into 2 sections, reinterpreting the tried-and-true Jeep front fascia. Just time will tell if the production version winds up adopting this appearance.

Jeep hasn’t provided a pickup from 1992 when it shut down the production of the Comanche. Sometimes since then, Jeep has actually hinted it wishes to return into the pickup scenario. The Gladiator concept whetted our appetites in 2005, followed by the J-12 principle that hit the 2012 Moab Easter Jeep Safari. In 2015, Fiat Chrysler played around with the concept of a Jeep-based pickup, however noted it wasn’t a leading concern at that time. Finally, at this year’s Detroit car show, Jeep CEO Mike Manley verified a Jeep Wrangler pickup is on the way.

The Jeep pickup will likely enter production sometime in the second half of 2018, and it will be based on the next-generation Wrangler SUV. All models in the brand-new Wrangler lineup will ride on a new chassis that features light-weight products, including a touch of aluminum. Expect the Wrangler to provide numerous engine options, including a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, 3.6-liter V-6, and a turbodiesel. Report has it Jeep may likewise draw out a plug-in hybrid variation.

When it will be on sale, the Jeep Wrangler pickup will contend with the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, and Honda Ridgeline. It shall enter into production in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2018, most likely showing up as a 2019 model.

The Brute is actually this exact vehicle so I’m confused. Are they spiking a Brute or are they speculating the team who builds Brutes got bought by Jeep and now makes an official Jeep Brute. Ugh, just like having a Jeep, lost in all the possibilities and options. It’ll cost 80 to 100 grand easily so don’t go thinking little Timmy gets one for his 16th unless you’re a richie.
