Two South Korean air force planes crashed in mid-air while they were training and crashed close to their base on Friday.

All four people died on board.

Both planes were KT-1 trainer aircraft, the country’s first indigenously developed planes, which took off from an air force base in the south-eastern city of Sacheon one after another while they were flight training, according to the air force.

The crash took place just five minutes after the first aircraft took off and around 3.7 miles south of the Sacheon base.

Two people, a trainer pilot, and an instructor were on board each of the two KT-1 aircraft. All four were taken out from the planes but they died later.

The air force said the crashes haven’t caused not cause any civilian casualties on the ground.

A passenger car was destroyed after being hit by the crash but there has been no other significant damage to civilian property.
