Infotainment Systems

The automotive industry has adroitly introduced segmentation in the infotainment systems across various models. When buying a new car, one can either opt for a base model with basic audio systems or opt for premium segment models for a high-end infotainment experience. Car manufacturers have increased their focus on offering a better user experience to customers who are willing to shell out bucks for the luxury segment.

So, what sets apart the basic audio system from the high-end ones? For starters, the base model would offer a decent sound quality since its equipped with entry-level systems. The base models are for economy segment models.

Premium segment cars are offered with additional features such as a better and larger touchscreen, neat design, and hi-tech navigation panel. The cost of such infotainment systems is high, and hence they are only offered in the premium segment models. For instance, A Bose surround-sound system with 14 speakers and 710 watts costs USD 1,200 from Porsche.

The mid-tier audio systems are considered value for money since you can get most of the required features at a cost less than the luxury segment.

The Current Offerings by Automakers

The luxury automakers are not shying away from offering premium infotainment systems across all variants. The probable reason could be a variety of optional upgrades offered in the marketplace. Independent car audio Sydney stores offer a wide range of products from leading car audio brands.

Audi A8

The car comes equipped with a 17-speakers standard infotainment system. However, if you want a better experience, such as a dual tablet system for second-row passengers, you can opt for a 23 speaker B&O unit.

Porche

Porsche is very popular for its high-end stereos. A 10-speaker hi-fi system is included in Porsche Cayenne’s basic model. A Bose surround-sound system with 14 speakers and 710 watts costs USD 1,200 from Porsche. Cayenne fans may spend USD 7,000 on a Burmester 3D High-End with 1,455 watts and 21 speakers.

The addition of rear-seat entertainment costs an additional USD 2,760. Upgrade to the Cayenne Turbo GT for USD 5,810 more and get the Bose system as well as the Burmester.

The upgraded stereo is occasionally included with performance models. The basic stereo in the 2022 BMW X5 sDrive 40i or BMW X5 xDrive45e has 205 watts and ten speakers. However, M50i or X5 M comes with a Harman Kardon surround-sound system.

Stellantis

When you opt for Stellantis Uconnet 5 Plus, you can get rear-seat functionality in your infotainment systems. It is one of the popular and in-demand features since it’s very suitable for long-distance family travel. Other impressive features included in this segment are a larger touchscreen, fast processor, 4k resolution, and TomTom navigation.

Final Thoughts

Today’s buzzword is “option.” Few people nowadays listen to music in a listening room with many speakers. The infotainment systems play a huge role in selecting a car variant. That is the prime reason why automakers focus on offering various tiers when it comes to auto-infotainment. Many companies have started up their game by including Wi-fi, mood lighting, and improved ambiance.
