Honda Motor stated on that an air bag made by Takata Corp burst in one of its vehicles in Japan, leading to a small injury to the driver.
Honda stated that the rupture took place in the passenger-side air bag of among its Fit compact multi-purpose cars last month. The Takata airbag pumped up with extreme force, spraying shrapnel into the vehicle and triggering light burns to the driver’s leg.
A Takata spokesperson stated that the company had been informed of the incident by Honda, which it was dealing with the automaker to verify details.
Takata recently accepted plead guilty to criminal wrongdoing and to pay $1 billion to fix a U.S. Justice Department investigation into ruptures of its air bag inflators connected to a minimum of 16 deaths globally.
Takata is presently responsible for the largest auto recall in history. Having recalled 40 million vehicles across 12 vehicle brands for “airbags that could explode and potentially send shrapnel into the face and body of both the driver and front seat passenger”.
