Jaguar to introduce sedan first, crossover later – report

by SpeedLux

Reports suggest that Jaguar is about to finalize the highly-anticipated X-Type successor.

A reputed car magazine opines that the model will be based on the company’s Lightweight style which recently made its debut on the Range Rover and uses a variety of fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines. In an effort to reduce costs, up to 90 percent of the components could be shared with the next-generation XF and XJ.

Jaguar global brand director Adrian Hallmark admitted that it wouldn’t be easy to compete with BMW and Mercedes. As explained, “It took Audi 20 years to reach a level to where it is now. For us to come in and go to the top of the league is impossible, so we have to find ways of expanding our business profitably and we’re well developed in that process.”

That’s little unclear, but Hallmark suggested that the company will introduce something with their own taste and like. The executive added very soon a variety of different body styles including a sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon is what one would expect.

Since it was decided to introduce the entry-level model first, this has led to the crossover being put on the back burner. According to Hallmark, “Even though the SUV market is growing, the saloon market is still twice the size, especially in the US.” He added that since Land Rover already makes crossovers, There is no need for Jaguar to get one to market as soon as possible.

Let us wait till the sedan is introduced and savor the colourful pictures in the meantime.
