Mercedes-Benz F125 – The future of vehicles

by Site Default

Mercedes presented an innovative concept at the Frankfurt 2011 Auto Show. The F125 runs solely on hydrogen and electricity, and to top it off, has performances close to the ones of regular super vehicles. Mercedes estimates that such a technology could become available in 7-8 years’ time.

Apart from the alien-looking exterior design, the inside also has a futuristic look: all of the systems can be controlled by using voice, or gestures, including the 17 inch display, thanks to the @yourCOMAND system.

There are only two doors, that, when opened reveal all of the passengers’ seats, including the ones in the back. The doors are Gullwing type, so they open upwards.

Mercedes say that such a car will have an autonomy of 1000 kms, by using 0.79 kg of H2 at every 100 km (the equivalent of 2.7L of Diesel). The four electrical engines provide a total of 313 horsepower, for a top speed of 138 mph and acceleration from 0 to 60 in just 4.9 seconds. In full electrical mode, the autonomy is 50 km.

This futuristic model is Mercedes’ way of thanking the pioneers that made the car industry what it is today – people that in their time were considered mad – and yet they managed to change the course of history.
