Previously this month, parts provider Takata stated that automakers are recalling 35 to 40 million additional Takata-branded airbag inflators, after the defective parts were found to explode in a cloud of shrapnel in specific conditions, instead of pumping up the air bag.
A great deal of Mercedes-Benz vehicles are either under recall or are now being recalled to have these air bag inflators replaced. Almost 1 million vehicles are impacted, varying from sedans to convertibles to cargo vans. Although the company has actually gotten no reports of injuries or fatalities in its cars.
