Mercedes-Benz U.S.A is recalling about 223 of 2016 Mercedes-Benz SLK300 luxury roadsters due to rollaway threat, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The automobiles are geared up with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
“The backup power supply for the ignition switch in the affected vehicles might not have actually been correctly connected,” stated NHTSA in its recall summary. “As a result, if the automobile is being driven and there is a loss of power from the primary automobile battery, the transmission can not be shifted to ‘Park’, nor can the electrical parking brake be used.”
“In this scenario, without the backup power supply, the only way to keep the automobile from moving is to push the brake pedal. As quickly as the driver attempts to exit the car, the vehicle might roll, increasing the threat of injury.”
The impacted SLK300 roadsters were developed from June 2, 2015 to July 14, 2015.
Mercedes-Benz dealers will fix the ignition switch circuitry and carry out a software upgrade. The recall is anticipated to start at some point in May. If you own one, can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer care at 1-800-367-6372.
