Today Mercedes-Benz has officially presented the details on its most powerful C-Class, the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series.
The new model has a wilder styling, more power, less weight, stiffer suspension and no rear seats, so it’s no compromise. The C63 AMG Coupe Black Series template also calls for a two-door, fixed roof bodyshell, even if the base car is only offered with a folding hardtop roof. Hence the C63’s predecessors are the CLK63 Black Series, SLK55 Black Series andSL65 Black Series – the latter two models having their folding hardtops replaced with a fixed roof.
Mercedes C63 Black Series keeps the naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 from C63, but power swells from the standard car’s 451bhp – or 480bhp if you spec the Performance Pack – to 510bhp. That brings it tantalisingly close to the E63, the C63’s big brother.
Compared with the standard C63 AMG, the Black Series sits lower and gets nicely widened tracks – an additional 1.6 inches in front, 3.1 inches rear – due primarily to the special 9.0-by-19-inch front and 9.5-by-19-inch rear AMG forged wheels. Beside this, the shift mapping with the AMG Speedshift MCT sport auto seven-speed has been modified, meaning gear changes in Sport+ and Manual modes take just one tenth of a second. Also the steering rate has been tightened up versus than the stock C-Class AMG cars.
This new model gets an oil cooler with a 50-percent larger surface, just like the SLS AMG. Also like the SLS, the Black Series gets forged pistons and connecting rods, plus a harder and lighter weight crankshaft.
At the inside the competition seats with leather and special Dinamica fabric feel swell on our backside and all the glitzy sport touches in there smack our awareness of all this just in case we didn’t get it already.
Maybe you are a fan of the SL Black Edition from Prior Design, but almost 200.000 euros seems to be too much. Well now you can get at half that price the new C63 AMG Coupe, same Black Series. If we comapre it with the standard C63 coupe, the price difference in Europe is a 35 percent hike. That should theoretically make the price for this in the U.S. somewhere around $90,000.
The Black Series, which is also fitted with carbon-fiber parts, will be available for customers early next year.
