Renault-Nissan has sold over 400,000 electric cars worldwide and the leader in plug-in automobiles is preparing more investment to preserve its market lead, the CEO of auto alliance stated.
Carlos Ghosn revealed the figure during an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“We are going to increase investment, we are going to have great deal of brand-new vehicles coming, better batteries, better performance, lower rates,” Ghosn stated on Wednesday.
Nissan’s Leaf started the modern crop of battery-only vehicles, joined 2 years later on by alliance partner Renault’s Zoe, a hatchback subcompact.
“We announced 8 years ago that there is no other way this market is going to make it through without electric vehicles. Electric vehicles become part of the future. The only concern is how quick they will be a significant factor to the market,” Ghosn stated.
The Franco-Japanese alliance stated in September it had sold 350,000 electrical cars since December 2010, when the Leaf initially went on sale.
“We are today the leaders in EV. We have sold over 400,000 EVs worldwide and we intend to keep this leadership,” Ghosn stated.
