Florida center T.J. McCoy was hit by a car in a hit-and-run on Friday, an arrest report from the Gainesville Police Department stated.

The report says that McCoy and his girlfriend were on a scooter at 3 a.m. Friday when they were struck by a 2011 Honda Civic. Both McCoy and his girlfriend were tossed from the scooter and referred to Shands Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

McCoy’s father, Tony McCoy, wrote an update about his son, in addition to a couple photos, on his Facebook page:-

“At 3 am this morning my wife and I received a call from the Trauma unit at Shands Hospital informing us that our son TJ had been in a hit and run accident and was found on the side of the road,” wrote McCoy. “It turned out that a drunk driver hit TJ and his girlfriend at a stop light after they left the library and fled the scene. With little information and declaring VICTORY, my family and I headed to Gainesville. Seems like, within minutes after we received the call, his Offensive Line coach was in the hospital with him keeping us updated.”

The younger McCoy also wrote his status on Facebook.

As for the motorist of the vehicle that hit McCoy and his girlfriend, Samantha Meldrem, 22, was jailed after leaving the scene. Authorities found her car with clear damage to the hood and bumper, in addition to a broken windscreen. As per the GPD, Meldrem had been drinking prior to the collision.

McCoy moved to Florida from NC State after the 2015 season and began the final four games of the 2016 campaign.
