Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a deadly vehicle crash that took place on Sunday morning and involved a van that was carrying 10 people and a puppy.
It crashed on Interstate 95 in Volusia County, Florida.
Troopers said the 2000 Ford passenger van went off the road around 5:30 a.m. near Ormond Beach and overturned in the northbound lanes.
The van was carrying 10 people inside who are residents from another state.
The roof was ripped open during the impact and the van occupants were taken out after the crash.
At least three people were killed in the crash as of Sunday morning including a 4-year-old girl, a 19-year-old woman, and another person whose details haven’t been provided as of yet.
Multiple other passengers were admitted to three area hospitals. Four passengers were admitted to Halifax Medical Center, three were admitted to Florida AdventHealth and a 3-year-old was flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, according to FHP.
The four individuals at Halifax and the 3-year-old are not in serious condition. The three people admitted to AdventHealth are in critical condition. As of Monday, two people were listed as critical, according to FHP.
A puppy was also rescued in the crash, troopers said.
Crash investigators believe that some of the passengers were lying down in the cargo area. The van appeared to be following traveling with another vehicle that was ahead of them.
Officials said the driver showed no indications of impairment and there were no car seats in the vehicle.
Charges are pending, as the investigation continue.
