Three people were killed after car crash in Elkhart County

Three people were killed after a car crash on County Road 38, west of County Road 17 in Elkhart County, Indiana.

The crash took place just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, November 6, when Elkhart County Sheriff’s investigators say the driver, an 18-year-old identified as Christian Hartpence of Lapaz, went off the north side of the roadway, hit a utility pole and a structure, causing the vehicle to roll, coming to rest right side up in the roadway.

All of the occupants were ejected and Hartpence was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger identified as 14-year-old Joseph Garrison of South Bend suffered severe head trauma and died at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Another passenger, a 19-year-old identified as Brandon Shetterly of Constantine, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old Goshen girl was hospitalized.

A 30-year-old Goshen woman was flown to South Bend Memorial Hospital with severe head trauma.

The occupants were not using seatbelts.

The crash is under investigation by Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team.
